         The Clarke Chronicles

        April/May Edition

Dear Readers,

As the April vacation comes to a close,it seems that the end of the school year is fast approaching! There are several events to make these last few months enjoyable.  Here are a few dates to keep in mind:

April 22nd is our field trip to Prout to see their production of “Bye, Bye Birdie.” This should prove  to be a spectacular performance.  The eighth graders are getting ready for their upcoming Washington D.C. trip from May 7th to the 9th. The halls will be very quiet without them!  Additionally, there will be Earth Day festivities to commemorate the awareness of and appreciation for the Earth…check out our Green Team article for details.  Also, remember that there is a school-wide book drive running through the end of April.  I would also like to encourage student participation in the Reading Week activities.

The Prosecution team of the  Msgr. Clarke Mock Trial Club will compete on May 5th against Cole Jr. High. The team representing the Defense has already lost a close match to Slater Middle School.  Better luck to the Prosecution participants!  Finally, save the date for the next Middle School Dance: May 15th in the gym.  Let’s aim for a great turn-out.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our Lenten Donation efforts.  The Student Council packaged and distributed many hygiene kits to those in need.  Thank you for your generosity. May you be especially blessed this Easter season.  Enjoy this great weather!

Random Acts of Kindness

This month we want to spotlight our Student Council Members who selflessly gave of their lunch hour to package toiletry bags for the needy, and who will be transporting books to the needy schools in Providence!  Thanks also go out to Meredith DiSchino and Courtney Gregory for all they do to help Mrs.Kane!

Green Team Update

The Green Team has many upcoming events for the months of April and May. The first few events are on Earth Day, April 22, 2009. The first is an after school clean up. The Green Team will be helping Msgr. Clarke by picking up litter around the school grounds. After the cleanup, a new garden will be planted in the MCS quad. The Green team is also having Msgr. Clarke take place in Earth Hour. For Earth Hour we will be shutting off all the lights in the school from 1 to 2pm to help save energy. The third Earth Day event is a waste free lunch. For this lunch we encourage everyone to use reusable items like a lunch box instead of a paper bag or a Tupperware container instead of a plastic Ziploc bag. If everyone participates by making small changes like these we can reduce waste and help the environment. There will also be a Green Team Bake sale Thursday, April 23. All proceeds will be used to make Msgr. Clarke a more eco-friendly school. The Green Team would also like to remind everyone to keep an eye out for updates on the Green Car Wash in May!
