Our History
Monsignor Matthew F. Clarke Catholic Regional School is a co-educational elementary school located in the town of Wakefield, Rhode Island. Begun in 1966, the school was built to serve three area parishes: St. Francis of Assisi in Wakefield, St Thomas More in Narragansett and St. Mary Star of the Sea in Narragansett.
In 1987 Monsignor Clarke School merged with The Prout School to create a Grade K-12 educational program. Monsignor Clarke School housed the Pre K – Grade 6 and The Prout School became a Junior/Senior High School for Grades 7-12. A joint school board was also formed at this time.
It soon became evident that the needs of the two schools were so different that a joint school board was not feasible. In 1992 each school established their own school board. There now exists close communication between the two schools. The majority of the Monsignor Clarke School eighth grade students attend The Prout High School.
